Small Bathroom Renovation Plans
The time has finally come to renovate the bathroom (let us pause for a praise break)! I’ve been waiting on this day since we first laid eyes on our house. It was so much smaller than I imagined from the listing photos. You know that real estate photography is trickery lol…nothing is as spacious as it seems in the photos. But nonetheless, we bought the house anyway because it was in a great location, and the home, including the bathroom, had a lot of potential. Fast forward 9 years later, and it’s the bathroom’s turn to get its makeover. Yes, you read that right, 9 years. Home Design is a marathon. It takes time to know what you want. It takes time to save for what you want. And then it takes time to renovate/decorate it how you want. Honestly, I’m grateful that it took this long because I know exactly what I want out of our small but mighty bathroom and I get to do it with the help of my favorite brand partner, The Home Depot. This post and this bathroom project is sponsored by The Home Depot Home Services.
Before we get into the breakdown of the project, I want to first tell you how wonderful and easy it has been to work with Home Depot Home Services, and tell you all about what the local, licensed, and insured service providers from Home Services offer. As a homeowner sometimes it’s hard to find trusted professionals to work on your home. Whether you’re going through a major renovation like a kitchen remodel, or like me a bathroom renovation, or you need windows replaced, new flooring, painting, landscaping, plumbing, closet system etc, Home Depot Home Services is your trusted resource for home improvement services. In fact there are over 400 home improvement services for you to choose from. Check out their list of services here.
Before I get into designing any of my spaces, I always like to list out my pain points. Here’s my list:
- The double doors that look like closet doors. I understand why someone thought that was a good idea, but functionally it wasn’t the best solution. We would always get stuck in the bathroom. The doors never operated properly (like NEVER). The doors didn’t have a lock (but that didn’t matter because you were going to get trapped in there anyway lol , and it just looked silly all around.
- The size. Our bathroom is on the smaller side.
- Countertop surface. We’re always balancing things on the edges of the countertop. Whether it’s my phone or a curling iron, there was not enough room. Maybe enough for just a few bobby pins.
- Vanity storage is limited.
- Storage in the bathtub area is also limited.
- Our sky light, which is original to the house, vents outside so the temperature in the bathroom always feels like the temperature outside. Plus if it’s windy enough while it’s raining or snowing, you feel that in the bathroom. So we pretty much had an outdoor bathroom lol.
- Popcorn ceiling. Has to go!
- White tile everywhere making it feel very sterile, and I guess they (the investors we bought from) put the strip of decorative tile to add more value? Lol.
- The vent in the shower. Even when it blew warm air, it still was cold on the body while taking a hot shower.
- And lastly, just not enough standing space.
So, we talked about the pain points. Let’s discuss what I actually like about it:
- The skylight. I love that it gets a ton of natural light throughout the day. The original look and feel of the skylight is something I want to keep.
