As pet owners, we love spoiling our furry friends with the best of everything. Adopting our dogs Jax and Chase 8 years ago, we’ve provided them with cozy beds, countless toys, and delicious treats. But our recent decision to install Lifeproof with Petproof Technology Premium Artificial Turf in our small DC row house backyard has been the most rewarding upgrade so far. Here are some of the reasons we love this pet-friendly artificial turf:

  • Petproof technology: The turf is pet-friendly, odor-resistant, and easy to clean, making it perfect for pets and their owners.
  • Easy installation: We installed the artificial turf ourselves, and The Home Depot offers professional installers depending on your location.
  • Heat and frost resistance: This turf keeps our dogs safe from overheating during summer or experiencing frost-related issues during winter.
  • Durability: Our dogs play rough, and this turf withstands their antics.
  • Natural appearance: The turf replicates grass, blending seamlessly with our patio area.
  • Low maintenance: No more dealing with messy mulch, muddy paws, or constant grass upkeep.

Step-by-Step DIY Artificial Turf Installation Guide

If you’re considering artificial turf for your backyard, follow these steps and gather the necessary supplies:

  • Measure your backyard and order your Lifeproof with Petproof Technology Premium Pet Turf from The Home Depot.
  • Prepare the area by digging down 3-4 inches and ensuring proper drainage with good grading.
  • Hand tamp the soil to prepare for the sub-base.
  • Lay a weed barrier and cover it with a sub-base of finely ground stone, such as decomposed granite or crushed rock. Hand tamp and water the sub-base to ensure an even surface.
  • Allow the turf to acclimate in the sun before laying it down and making precise cuts.
  • Trim excess turf and secure it using 6-inch galvanized nails. Remember to position the turf blades correctly before nailing.
  • Brush the turf blades and apply infill using a sweeper or outdoor broom.
