Small Bathroom Renovation Reveal: Home Depot Home Services

It’s finally here! This bathroom is seeing new life, and I’m so excited to share it with you. This post is sponsored by The Home Depot Home Services, who I am so happy to have partnered with for this bathroom makeover. Come check it out below!

I told you in my previous blog post that I was planning on getting rid of everything in the bathroom except for the sky light, and that’s exactly what we did. Here’s a recap of the big changes:

I asked the local, licensed, and insured service providers from the Home Services team if my idea of a floating toilet would work and they said “no problem!”. The new floating toilet allows for more standing space when looking at the bathroom, and also gives a less congested feel when you’re in the room. I highly recommend a floating toilet for a modernized and functional upgrade to your bathroom.

The next big change was the vanity. Our previous vanity felt slender and builder grade, so I wanted the Home Services team to install a floating vanity. I found a nice floating vanity on homedepot.com, and it looked even better in person. The warmth of the wood grain is a big change from the more sterile white that we had previously. And the drawers function a lot better for our daily routine. We also maximized that wall, by doubling the vanity size from what we previously had.

Did you notice how the old bathroom had tile on all of the walls? That was for sure an element I did not want to keep, so I opted to paint the walls a nice calm khaki green. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a fully tiled bathroom, but only when it’s done tastefully. In our case, I wanted flexibility with the walls. I like switching up paint colors, so fully tiled walls weren’t a major necessity for me.

The previous floors had a medium sized 10×10 tile, but I wanted something with a bit more design appeal. I chose a beautiful marble mosaic that has a decent amount of grout lines, which can help with foot traction if your feet are wet and the smaller tile is more forgiving when there’s dust on the ground. We also decided it was practical to run the tile about a third of the way up the wall near the toilet, since that area has the potential to get wet. It also gives an interesting design dimension with the texture and change of material from drywall to stone.

The shower is another favorite component. I went through a ton of different tile options and layouts, and landed on this matte finish small format black tile laid out horizontally. The horizontal layout was intentional to make the shower area feel wider even though we didn’t make it bigger. The small tiles and richness of the black, contrasted with the smoothness of the bathroom walls allows the shower to have its own moment. The champagne bronze shower fixtures and hose adds some extra adornment and luxury to the space. This part of the renovation process was tedious, but my Home Depot Home Services Team were true craftsmen. They took their time and meticulously laid each tile as straight as possible.

Hooks, hooks, and more hooks! When I was putting the design together, I knew that I no longer wanted long towel bars anywhere in the bathroom. When I found these matching hooks, I knew that was the solution. There is a set in the bathroom for our towels to dry, one on the outside of the shower wall for when you’re getting out the shower, and four hooks in the shower itself for washcloths to dry. This is definitely a function meets aesthetics moment. Plus, I don’t know about you but I don’t like my wash cloth touching someone else’s.

Since the room is so small, I had to make sure that I used pieces that would elongate and widen it as much as possible. The large sconces and tall mirror provide a grand appearance that really helps the space have the illusion of size.

Check out a few more details of this makeover below, like where I placed the toilet paper holder, and the new shower storage by way of two niches. I am really proud of this design, and I hope that I’ve inspired you to do the most with what you have, whether that be a large or small space.
